3 Ways Yoga Helped Me Love My Body

Hello my lovely readers! Let’s talk about yoga and self love; cue “Yoga” by Janelle Monae (great song, check it out). I’ve been doing yoga since high school. As a matter of fact, I used to do it everyday but as I’ve become a busier college girl I pretty much do it when I can/feel like it. So here are my three ways that yoga has helped me love my body.

1. Increased My Strength & Flexibility

Who has tried yoga before? pretty much everyone right? So agree with me when I say some of the poses are so HARD (like how do some people move their bodies like that? please let me know). I kept practicing yoga and falling in love with MY practice, no one else’s. As I kept practicing I noticed the poses that were difficult before became much easier. My arm, leg, back, and core strength were all increasing. This made me realize that my body is such a strong and capable thing and I should love all aspects of it.

2. Made Me Happier

After a practice I’m always in a happy mood and more relaxed, it’s like my body is saying thank you to me. I don’t know how to explain it so I’ll just spit some research at you guys. Many studies have found that constant yoga practice improves depression and significant increases in serotonin levels. WOW it all makes sense now. So since I was happier it led to my being happier about my body.

3. Cool Stuff Happened To My Body

Like wow who knew breathing correctly is important? And wait, good posture is healthy? Sarcasm aside, a lot of things happened to my body because of doing yoga. My breaths were better because I learned to take full breaths that originate from the stomach, my digestion got better from all the different postures (this led to a better looking belly too), and it also deepened my sleep! All these great things that happened to my body led to more self love for it.
